HVAC Controls​​

Controls form a fundamental part of a Building Energy Management System (BEMS). which is a computer based system used to monitor and control heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, providing a high degree of flexibility in system operation and management.

 

Three terms commonly used in building services engineering are temperature, power, and energy.


The main forms of energy considered in building services are chemical energy, mechanical energy, electrical energy, and thermal (heat) energy.


By controlling temperature and equipment power, significant energy savings can be achieved while maintaining the required comfort levels and system performance.


To ensure economy, safety, occupant comfort, and environmental sustainability, several important factors must be considered, including insulation, heat recovery, and effective control systems. These measures have a significant impact on reducing energy consumption and improving overall energy efficiency.

 

Achieving optimum energy savings through effective control systems is a primary objective.


The control system can perform a wide range of functions, including equipment step control, start/stop optimisation, weather compensation, and zoning. These functions improve energy efficiency, reduce operating costs, and maintain comfortable indoor conditions.​
